From our contrast therapy pools to our custom-designed library, The Asa Maia’s one-of-a-kind facilities go that extra mile, making your stay here truly something to write home about…
The unique ironwood decking
Main Pool
Relax in a nature-wrapped reflective pool in the heart of our resort
A focal point of The Asa Maia’s fragrant gardens, our free-form, stone-clad pool is the perfect place to unwind or workout whilst soaking up some Balinese rays. Wrapped in electric green foliage, it’s flanked by sun loungers along its 25-meter length and dotted with tables hewn from bluestone. The feeling of swimming through silk is thanks to saltwater, which is gentler on hair, skin and eyes (not to mention better for your joint health) versus chlorinated pools. In keeping with our commitment to reuse discarded materials and minimize plastic, the unique ironwood decking has been upcycled from a dilapidated bridge found in Borneo’s Kalimantan region.
Double dose of detoxification
Himalayan Salt and Infrared Sauna
Shake up your sauna routine with healing hand-mined salts and infrared heat
Our supercharging sauna combines dry heat with infrared light for a double dose of detoxification! The eco-friendly hemlock structure uses 90% less energy than traditional saunas and promotes deeper healing too. Rather than heating the air, the infrared carbon-jade stone and ceramic heaters warm the body’s tissues directly, meaning you sweat more intensely at a lower temperature. Meanwhile, Himalayan salt tiles – which give our cozy cabin its pinkish glow – are fashioned from hand-harvested crystals that have matured in the Himalayas lava beds for millennia. These curative crystals charge the atmosphere with negative ions known as "vitamins of the air" which induce a deep state of relaxation.
Enjoyed under star-spangled skies
Hot-Cold Subterranean Pools and Fire Pit
Tap into the earth’s elemental forces with these unique resort facilities
Nestled side by side, our well-like hot pool and cuboid-esque cold pool are one of only a handful of contrast therapy facilities in Bali. Constructed from volcanic rock, they’re sunken five meters into the earth. Guests descend down a series of steps to their watery depths, where a sky-framed view is revealed. They’re bordered by a rock-hewn fire pit: a relaxed gathering space encircled by limestone seating slabs. Come sundown it transforms into a flickering blaze of real fire, best enjoyed under star-spangled skies. The hypnotic dancing flames should whet your appetite for Uluwatu Temple’s cliff-top Kecak Fire Dance: a rousing nightly performance rooted in an evil spirit-repelling ritual.
Indigenous craft and culture
Lobby and Art Gallery
Immerse yourself in the unique cultural identity of Bali
A multi-functional space housed in The Asa Maia’s airy central pavilion, our lobby also serves as a bijoux library, informal art gallery and boutique gift shop. Its centerpiece is a stone feature spiral staircase. From Balinese antiques to tribal textiles, the hotel’s art collection pays homage to the island’s rich history of indigenous craft and culture. The lobby walls are hung with original work by celebrated artists like contemporary Balinese painter Mangu Putra, photographer Rio Helmi, mixed media artist Davina Stephens and portrait photographer Ute Gabrielle. One of our team will be more than happy to guide you on an art and culture tour around the resort.
Burying your head in a book
Library
A light-flooded hideout to while away an afternoon
A piece of art in its own right, our custom-made library is fashioned from floor-to-ceiling, copper-trimmed teak shelves that appear to sprout from ground. Overlooking the hotel’s reflective palm-fringed pool, it’s outfitted with low-slung sinkable sofas that are perfect for burying your head in a book. Our lovingly curated archive includes collectible coffee-table tomes on Balinese architecture and Timorese textiles, and a book dedicated to jamu aka the 1,300-year-old Indonesian practice of herbal healing. We also have iPads loaded with e-books on mindfulness that you’re welcome to borrow for the duration of your stay.
